Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to highlight the importance of research and evidence-based practice among nursing undergraduate students in Pakistan. Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and build a strong foundation for any healthcare needs in the hospital setting. Research and Evidence-based clinical practice are crucial parts of a nursing career, to be able to promote better evidence-based practice, research needs to be taught in nursing undergraduate programs to ensure high-quality practice1. The core focus is to determine the role of evidence-based practices in reducing bedsores in the clinical sector. According to this aspect, undergraduate nursing students can provide quality care to patients as well as can be able to incorporate evidence-based practices in their professional lives.
Over the past few years healthcare industry has revolutionized and so has nursing, in terms of academics, advanced practice, and research. Evidence-based practice ensures safe patient outcomes and reduces cost burden by avoiding future complications in the future2
Integrating research and evidence-based practice will give a sense of utmost responsibility to the future nursing workforce and empower their patient-centered practice. For example, undergraduate nursing students can implement evidence-based practice such as repositioning the patient so that the risk of bedsore can be reduced3. By considering this aspect, undergraduate students will be empowered to reduce the risk of exacerbation of diseases.
Pakistan is a developing country, where healthcare and nursing evolving simultaneously. The nursing fraternity of Pakistan has to make a combined effort and realize the importance of research and evidence-based practice for nursing undergraduates and incorporate it at a basic level4. This will empower nursing undergraduates’ research skills and also reshape their clinical practice to more evidence-based practice5. For example, students will be able to identify which sources are valid and provide evidence-based practices. This skill ensures the enhancement of searching skills, incorporating knowledge in clinical practices such as treating or reducing the risk of bedsores in the healthcare sector.
It is concluded that this study sheds light on the significance of evidence-based practices for undergraduate nursing students who can enhance their ability to access valid sources, incorporating information in real life and ensuring the improvement of patients’ health.
The authors would like to acknowledge and extend their gratitude to the institution.
